Native Tree Growing

For Lasting Change

RAFI One To Tree promotes native tree growing in the Philippines as a practical way to restore ecosystems, support biodiversity, and create lasting environmental impact.

Planting a tree marks the beginning, but nurturing its growth is vital to fully realize its environmental benefits and ensure long-term sustainability.

We GROW trees, not just plant them, because we are invested in a healthy future, understand the crucial ecosystem services trees provide, and recognize our responsibility to steward the planet.

We leverage partnerships with government units, the private sector, and local communities to empower farmers in tree cultivation, achieving an average tree-growing success rate of 85% while advancing environmental conservation.

What We Want to Solve

The Philippines is grappling with a severe deforestation crisis, losing over 60% of its forests in the last 80 years, including 1.42 million hectares from 2001-2022. This has fueled rising carbon emissions, alongside other sectors, reaching 155 million tons in 2022 (1.36 tons/Filipino), leaving only 24% forest cover. This is why reforestation in the Philippines needs long-term, community-based action rather than one-time planting alone.

Our initiatives directly support United Nation SDGs: 13 (Climate Action) by tackling emissions and deforestation; 14 (Life Below Water) through the link between healthy forests and marine ecosystems in our archipelago; and 15 (Life on Land) by halting deforestation and restoring biodiversity. We are dedicated to reversing environmental damage and building a sustainable future.

Stories of Hope

“I have two children who are currently studying at Inghoy Elementary School and part of their school activity is to grow trees. I think as a parent, it’s my responsibility to lead a good example for my children to follow. That’s why I’m very proactive in supporting them to motivate them to grow trees.”

About RAFI One To Tree

Targeted to increase forest cover and mitigate the effects of climate change, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.'s (RAFI) One to Tree (OTT) program is RAFI’s national tree growing program that helps restore forests, support biodiversity conservation, and reduce the effects of climate change through community-based forest management. It brings together diverse stakeholders, such as government units, the private sector, civil society organizations, and local communities, to champion environmental stewardship within their respective localities.

Highlighting the ecological importance of growing native trees and supporting them through providing another source of income, the farmers and their families become the guardians of their own natural heritage.

The impact goes beyond environmental benefits, as “One to Tree” transforms individuals into community leaders who are passionate about preserving their local ecosystems. Through its community-based approach, the program demonstrates that when communities are engaged and empowered, they become proactive protectors of their environment.
