Rooted in Motherhood: Why Arriane Magtarayo Chose to Grow Her Career with RAFI One to Tree

Some commitments begin with advocacy.
Others begin with love—that deepens through time.

For Arriane Magtarayo, her devotion to biodiversity work and her long-standing commitment for almost 12 years with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., is rooted in one simple, powerful reason: she wants her child to grow up breathing clean air and eating the freshest, safest produce possible.

Arriane did not join RAFI One to Tree (OTT), because it was popular or convenient. She accepted the role—and chose to stay—because it aligned with the future she envisions for her child.

As a mother, Arriane carries a quiet but constant question: What kind of world will my child inherit?

That question has shaped how she sees the environment—not as an abstract cause, but as a living system directly tied to health, nourishment, and survival. For her, biodiversity is no longer theoretical. It is deeply personal.

That same purpose is why she has grown with the organization over the years, bringing her skills, time, and care to her work, always grounded in patience and forward thinking.

RAFI One to Tree is rooted in growing trees and advancing advocacies for sustainability. Beyond planting, its mission restores ecosystems that support food security, clean air, and resilient communities. This commitment resonates deeply with Arriane, both as a mother and as a professional committed to sustainable impact.

She believes that:

  • Fresh produce starts with healthy soil
  • Clean air begins with protected forests
  • A child’s future depends on decisions made today

RAFI One to Tree partners with private organizations to co-design tree-growing initiatives that advance environmental commitments, assist in meeting regulatory requirements, and strengthen employee engagement. The program focuses on growing upland and mangrove ecosystems, grounded in rigorous site selection, careful plantation establishment, sustained maintenance and monitoring, and strengthened community empowerment to deliver lasting impact.

Within the program, Arriane oversees corporate partnerships and portfolios, coordinating initiatives, and aligning partnership goals to mutually support each partner’s objectives. Working closely with local government units (LGUs), NGOs and People’s Organizations, RAFI One to Tree anchors each initiative in community stewardship—helping ensure that corporate support leads to lasting environmental and social impact.

This holistic, systems-based approach is what transformed her involvement from participation into long-term stewardship.

Where the Work Grows, She Grows

Arriane’s love for RAFI One to Tree is reflected in her work ethic—strategic, collaborative and reliable. These are qualities developed through years of on-the-ground experience and refined by motherhood.

Within the organization, she serves as a Partnerships Senior Officer, building and nurturing relationships with corporate partners whose support sustains the work beyond planting. Through strategic partnership development, collaboration, and advocacy, she helps ensure that initiatives are not one-time efforts, but enduring commitments—driving sustainability, survival, and measurable impact on the ground.

Her continued dedication over 12 years allows her to see projects through seasons—witnessing not just beginnings, but outcomes. For Arriane, protecting biodiversity is about ensuring farms remain fertile for nutritious food, forests continue to regulate air and climate, and communities stay safe for children to grow and thrive. She understands that when ecosystems fail, it is children who feel the consequences first—and longest. This understanding fuels her faithfulness to the work, even when progress is slow, incremental, or unseen.

Balancing environmental work with motherhood is not easy. Arriane shifts from home responsibilities to steady work rhythms—meetings, deadlines, and thoughtful writing that blends compliance with persuasion. Yet she continues, because the cost of inaction feels greater.

Her commitment is not driven by urgency alone, but by responsibility to the next generation.

“I do this work because I think about my child’s future. I also think about the children I have met in the communities we serve, the many more I will meet in the years to come, and those I have yet to meet. They deserve a future shaped by care, action, and responsibility.”

Her words capture what statistics cannot—the emotional truth behind sustained conservation work.

A Love Letter to the Future

Arriane Magtarayo’s love for RAFI One to Tree is, at its core, a love letter to the future.
A biodiversity champion in both conviction and practice, she has made a decision—renewed over a decade—to protect not only trees and ecosystems, but the everyday essentials of life: food on the table, air in the lungs, and safety for children yet to grow.

In choosing to stay faithful to this work, she reminds us that biodiversity protection begins at home—and extends far beyond it, shaping communities, livelihoods, and generations to come.

If you believe every child deserves clean air and nourishing food, there are meaningful ways to act:

  • Partner with RAFI One to Tree and be part of our work that grows forests and futures
  • Make conscious everyday choices that protect ecosystems
  • Support initiatives committed to long-term environmental health

Because the future we protect today is the life our children will step into—shaped by our care, our courage, and the choices we make now.

Donate A Tree be part of restoring forests and securing a healthier tomorrow.
